Riyad Mahrez is present Mohamed Salah outside the perfect line-up for the English Premier League

Algerian Riyad Mahrez, the star of Manchester City, was in the perfect squad for the English Premier League for the last season 2020-2021, while Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's top scorer, was absent despite his position as top scorer in the competition.

Mahrez is present in the perfect squad
The global website WhoScored, which specializes in numbers and statistics, published a line-up of 11 players, which it considered the best in the English Premier League during the season ending with Manchester City's crowning the title, surpassing its runners-up Manchester United and Liverpool.

The name of Riyad Mahrez appeared in the perfect squad along with other Manchester City players, the Belgian Kevin De Bruyne and the Portuguese Joao Cancelo, after the trio shone remarkably and helped restore City to the title that Liverpool had crowned the previous season.

Riyad Mahrez won the English Premier League title for the second time in his career with Manchester City and the third time in his career in general after he had previously crowned Leicester City in the 2015-2016 season.

Mahrez participated in 27 matches in the Premier League during the past season, in which he scored 9 goals and provided 6 assists. In general, he played 47 games throughout the season in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and making 9.

On the other hand, Mohamed Salah was absent from the squad despite his distinguished individual numbers, but the results of his team, Liverpool, were not convincing during the season, as the team finished the league in third place, and qualified with difficulty to participate in the Champions League next season.

Salah played 37 matches in the English Premier League with Liverpool, meaning that he missed only one match, scored 22 goals, and provided 5 assists, while the number of his matches in general in the season reached 51, scoring 31 goals and making 6 more.

Salah ranked second in the Premier League scorer list, one goal behind Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, who scored 23 goals.

The squad was limited to 5 clubs only, namely Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Burnley.

It included both:

Goalkeepers: Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa).

Defense line: Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - James Tarkovsky (Burnley) - One Bissaka (Manchester United).

Midfielders: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City) - Bruno Fernandez (Manchester United) - Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City).

Offensive line: Harry Kane (Tottenham) - Olly Watkins (Aston Villa)

The best player in Liverpool
On the other hand, Mohamed Salah was chosen the best player in Liverpool last season, by choosing the "Reds" fans.

Salah came in the lead, ahead of Brazilian Fabinho, who came second, and English defender Nathaniel Phillips, who finished third.

Salah said in statements to the official Liverpool website: "I am happy with this award, especially as it is the choice of the fans, but winning our last matches and qualifying for the Champions League was the most important thing."

He added: "I think I played well this season, but it is not about me, it is about the team. If we had the support of the fans on the stadium, we would be in a much better position."
